If you're about to start work on a construction site, you'll need to prepare by fencing in the site. This will help keep passersbys out of the construction site, which will help keep them safe. It will also offer a level of security for your items, protecting against theft. In most areas, there are at least a couple of different companies that rent out temporary construction fencing. Here are a few tips to keep in mind should you choose to rent from one of these companies.

Chalk out your fence line

Before you rent the fencing, you need to know how much you need. The easiest way to measure for the fencing is to first use chalk to draw a line where the fencing will go. Then, you can use a tape measure to measure your chalk line. Make sure you do this on a day when there is no rain expected so your chalk does not just wash away. Or, look for waterproof or water-resistant chalk. This has the advantage of staying in place longer so you can also use it as a guide when the fencing is installed.

Don't skimp on height

The company you rent from might have fencing at several heights. For instance, it is common for fencing companies to have both 4-foot and 6-foot options. There may be cases where a shorter fence is adequate, such as if you're mainly doing landscaping work with smaller equipment. But in most cases, you're going to get more security from a taller fence, which makes it well worth paying for.

Pay for setup

Some temporary fencing companies will just drop off the fencing panels and let you set them up yourself. While this approach may save you some money, it will cost you time. It is usually more efficient to simply let the fencing company set the fencing up. They know what they are doing and can work a lot faster than a crew who doesn't have experience.

Rent it for longer than you think you need

Construction projects have a habit of taking longer than planned. So, rent your fencing for a bit longer than you think you need it. For example, if your project is planned to take 4 weeks, rent the fencing for 6 weeks.

Renting temporary fencing is a great way to secure a job site. Just make sure you keep the tips above in mind as you do so.
